My Compaq MV730i monitor turns itself off when the computer is turned on. Does the monitor go on at all as the computer is starting? It turns on from hibernation and then turns off. It will also turn off if not connected to the computer; it used to say no video input when not plugged in to the computer. Is this a CRT monitor?

I had broken off a pin on my Pismo's (400MHz) 6GB hard drive, soldered it back on, plugged it in, didn't work. I tried a working 40GB hard drive after the 6GB one didn't work, but it also didn't work. I'm hoping it's just the connector that's fried, not the logic board. I have another PowerBook for parts and have interchanged every possible combination. Can you please direct me in the right direction?
