I am getting a message saying Google will shut down in 10 days and I should back up. Back up what and is this a scam?

I have an Acer Aspire X 3900 computer running on Windows 7. I recently bought a Genius iLook 310 webcam and plugged it into one of the USB ports. When I use Skype or Google+ Hangout, people can see me but cannot hear me. The Skype test program says everything is OK, and the webcam worked fine when tested at the shop. Could it be a hardware problem with my Acer, or are the settings wrong? What should I do to get it working?
