I can't get rid of a menu in the center of my screen: black background with a blue border, small icons down left side. The top of the menu is titled 'audio adjust', and it contains volume and mute items. Beneath the menu is a bar showing '1:exit' and '2:select'. Clicking on either of these options produces no effect. How can I delete this menu?

I just bought a 4TB My Passport portable hard drive and I don't know how to back up my desktop with Time Machine or add files from my desktop to the Passport. My Mac isn't recognizing the Passport on the control bar with File, Edit, etc. What should I do?
