I have a SATA drive that is failing to connect in XP. It was installed, formatted, and partitioned fine, but after sending the PC in for another hardware problem, the drive is detected in BIOS and XP Disk Management but shows as 'missing' and 'failed'. Reactivating the disk results in an error. I have tried changing the IDE connection to different SATA ports with no luck. Can the drive be reinstalled without deleting the volume on the device?
