I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 425CDT laptop that allows swapping the 3-1/2 floppy drive with a CD drive. After replacing the floppy drive with a CD drive, the computer did not recognize the CD drive and continued to show the no longer present floppy drive in My Computer. I ensured the connections were solid. What's wrong, and how do I fix it?

I have Ubuntu 8.04 and am trying to send and receive email, but the outgoing mail (SMTP) doesn't work as it doesn't recognize my password, although it works for receiving (POP).
