I placed a read-only disc in my computer and got a dialogue box stating it had to be formatted. After removing the CD, the dialogue box keeps appearing with a sound. I've tried shutting down the computer completely and using the cancel button, but the box won't go away. It happens even when I try to play music. How can I resolve this issue?

My DVD/CD-ROM drive is not recognized on my HP Pavilion laptop running Windows Vista. The drive tray opens and closes, but it does not appear in Device Manager or under Disk Management. What steps can I take to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue?

I can't access any Windows applications on my laptop, including troubleshooting and system restore. There's a red cross on the internet connection icon, but I'm connected and can only access the internet via Firefox. Internet Explorer won't open.
