I bought a very old Dell laptop that runs extremely slow. I tried to remove unused programs, but after rebooting, none of my programs work, and Windows says it can't open them because it needs to know what program created them. What did I do, and what should I do now?

I am using a Toshiba (SATA) PH3150U-1EXB external drive on a Lenovo W700 with Windows 7. When trying to set up a 'Let me select' backup set, only the 'Desktop' appears in the select window under 'Computer'. The same issue occurs when trying to 'sync' files. My Acer Extensa 5610G computer has 3 accounts - ADMIN, Bruce, and Guest - using Windows 7 Ultimate. Certain programs requiring ADMIN privileges suddenly stopped working, claiming files cannot be found, even though they are present in Program Files. Restarting the computer did not help, and the ADMIN password is not being accepted. This issue occurred after restoring the system from a backup on the hard drive. How can I resolve this issue?
