For the last 2 months, our 7-year-old neutered male Schnauzer has been eliminating one or two small pieces of feces while sleeping or laying down. This has never happened in the past but now happens about 50% of nights and sometimes during the day, in his bed or wherever he happens to be sleeping. He is in good health, has not had a change in diet, and his bowel habits when we walk him or put him out in the yard to do his business have been normal. What could be causing this?
