Good morning Dr. This is Cynthia Cahoon. My dog Simba is a large, 205-pound dog who is having difficulty getting up and has bloodshot eyes, but no fever. She has been eating only hotdogs and drinking more water than usual. She is currently on penicillin but still has urinary incontinence. What could be causing her symptoms and what should I do?

Is the fecal test given for Parvo in puppies specific to Parvo, or could it be another bacteria causing the same symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite? Are there false positives in diagnosing Parvo? Is Parvo contagious to older dogs if their vaccination status is unknown?

My 6lb Chihuahua, Cupcake, has been itching for 2 weeks, experiencing hair loss, and has been on prednisone injections and antibiotics. The lab ruled out mange. We tried a salmon-only diet and krill oil capsules with no improvement. Her skin is scaly and flaking, and her nails are lifeless and gray. She is also very hungry and thirsty during the day but sleeps well at night. What could be causing her symptoms, and what additional treatments or diagnostics should we consider?
