Hi, I recently took my boxer mix to the vet for excessive itching. The vet found a lump on her paw and did a fine needle aspiration (FNA) suspecting a mast cell tumor. The FNA came back negative for mast cells, but the vet found other cells suggesting an infection like fungal or parasitic. The vet suggested removing the lump for a biopsy. Is it necessary to pay $1200 for removal and biopsy if the FNA didn't show mast cells? Should the vet have been able to tell us what type of lump it was and if it was cancerous?
