I have a 1-year-old dog named Sprite, who just completed all booster shots. The vet wants to do a full panel blood test. Is this really necessary, especially since Sprite seems healthy and is a happy 7-pound Chihuahua Poodle mix?

Hi Dr. We have a 7.5yr old female pug weight 17.3lb. with no history of seizure. She does have bee allergy. On 12/30 I noticed her hind legs were a bit ataxic, she has chronic ear infections. I swabbed her ear which resulted in brown gooey swab. Saw the vet 12/31 who ordered Clindamycin 150mg every 12 hours. At 11:30 she received her first dose and became very lethargic. At dinner (5pm) she was eating and acted like she had something stuck in her mouth so I finger swiped her mouth which she then collapsed in a seizure-like event with no drool, no paddling, and no bowel or bladder loss. Our vet administered 35mg phenobarbital at 6pm and we then took her to an ER where she was dosed with 120mg phenobarbital over the following 24 hours. All her blood work was normal. We brought her home where she received 16.2 mg phenobarbital 2x per day. She is now on 8.1 mg 2x per day. She is very out of it, has a very hard time standing, and has urinated in her bed. I guess my question is, at what dose is phenobarbital toxic and should we take her to an ER for observation? We did discontinue the Clindamycin for now as she was considerably worse on this med.
