My dog, Max, has been making cough-like sounds as if trying to clear his throat, which sometimes seems like he's about to vomit but nothing comes out. This occurs mostly when he gets up from sleep, stands on his hind legs, or pulls hard on his leash. It has been going on for two days and seems to be getting worse. Max is a 3-year-old Black Russian Terrier, otherwise healthy, and we are currently traveling in Canada where it is cold, and he has been outside a lot and eating snow. What could be causing this and what should I do?
