I have a 15-year-old West Highland Terrier named Jasper who has been experiencing a severe, dry cough that sounds like gagging or sneezing, followed by relief. The cough has been ongoing for about a year or two, worsening with travel and changes in weather. He has a history of allergies and ear infections, and the last vet visit suggested it might not be kennel cough or pulmonary fibrosis. He is not on heartworm preventative medication. What could be causing his cough and what can I do to help him until I can get him to the vet?
