I am concerned it could be canine parvovirus or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, especially since she may have ingested a mouse that had consumed mouse bait. Our 40 lb English Springer broke into a plastic jar of Parmesan cheese on the counter. There was about 3 oz remaining. The jar is shredded at the top, the lid is separated and intact. My primary concern is shards of plastic. What should I do to ensure the dog's safety and prevent any potential injuries from the plastic shards?

My dog, Luther, has been scratching his ear and face for a few weeks, especially on his right side. He has a cone to prevent further injury, but the area around his eye is now red and irritated. He has also been licking the affected area. What could be causing this and what can I do to help him?
