I have an 11-year-old Schnauzer female who is about to lose her right rear leg paws due to an accident resulting in the removal of the #5 nail and a subsequent Staph infection (coagulase staphylococcus spp.). Is this procedure necessary, or should we consider other treatments including possible drugs? The vet is also considering amputation of the leg if other treatments fail.

I have an 11-year-old miniature poodle who is epileptic and is on phenobarbital twice a day, 2.5 mg of potassium bromide daily, and 22 mg of SAM-e cut in half once a day. He has been falling when trying to walk. Could this be a reaction to the drugs?
