I just got a new puppy named Arthur, a 10-week-old Miniature Schnauzer. He cries and barks when I put him in his playpen or crate while I'm working, especially if he can see me. He's most content on my lap, but I don't want to create that as a habit. How can I prevent over-coddling him and encourage proper behavior without causing him distress?
