My 10-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was diagnosed with diabetes in April 2019. He was prescribed Vetsulin, but his diabetes is still not controlled despite the high cost of treatment. Is there a cheaper human insulin, like Walmart's Novolin N, that he can safely switch to, and how long does it typically take to regulate diabetes in dogs?

My dog is lethargic and has started limping suddenly. She is a Northern Reserve Rescue, estimated to be 4-5 years old. She has always been energetic and we take her for an hour-long off-leash walk every morning. She was fine after yesterday's walk but became lethargic an hour later and has remained so since. My Labrador, Oliver, has been letting out short whines (like he is in pain) for the past 3 weeks only when he stands up on his hind legs.
