My 13-year-old Great Pyrenees/Chow mix is losing hair in masses, has inflamed ears, and oozing green discharge from the eyes. The vet prescribed thyroid meds, but the condition seems to be worsening. I suspect mange. How can I confirm if it's mange, is it contagious, and how can it be treated? Additionally, the dog has increased thirst, and the vet mentioned kidney failure. What can blood work reveal, and how can I provide relief to my dog?
