My 14-year-old female Pug, who has been diabetic for a month, is currently on 7 units of Humulin 70/30 insulin twice a day. She eats Hills w/d and sometimes Hills a/d. Her blood sugar levels are fluctuating, with a reading of 70 two hours after an injection and meal. Should I be concerned about these levels, and what should I do if they drop further? Additionally, can she have snacks like ham and cheese, and is it safe to continue with 7 units of insulin?

My dog has diabetes. Is it better to prick for blood glucose (BG) or use a syringe? I read that syringes draw too many capillaries and are not accurate.
