My 5 lb long-haired Chihuahua, Hannibal, has an interdigital cyst on his right front paw. He had a similar cyst a year ago that was treated with a Kenalog injection, which worked quickly. This time, the same treatment hasn't improved the cyst and it has worsened. My vet suggested surgery if the Kenalog doesn't work, and mentioned the risk of infection and sepsis if it isn't removed. Hannibal is 9 years old, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and in excellent health. He flinches when the paw is touched but isn't favoring the paw or limping. What should be done about the cyst, and is surgery the only option?
