My 5-pound, 11-year-old Yorkie named Cassie has a collapsed trachea and experiences coughing and gas when picked up, which compresses her stomach. She has been dealing with this for several years and has seen multiple vets, including the Bush Clinic in Richmond. She has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure but was later cleared of a heart murmur by Virginia Tech. She is currently taking zonisamide twice a day to prevent seizures, benedryl, cough tabs, hydrocodone, and prednisone for her cough, and hound honey four times daily. What should I know about managing her collapsed trachea and her current medications?
