My Basset Hound, Roy, is 6 years old and has been slow moving this week, yelping when he moves, and appears to be in pain when touched lightly on his left back leg. He is not limping but has difficulty going up stairs. He has no prior symptoms and is not known to have arthritis. What should I do for him in the moment, and should I take him to the vet?
