My dog, a dachshund and chihuahua mix, is nearly 11 years old and has been panting continuously all night as if she cannot get enough air. She also sat down and looked upwards without responding to calls. Is this a serious condition or possibly a sign of her final days?

Our dog (14 lb. Bichon) was diagnosed with diabetes about two months ago. Our vet adjusted his insulin dosage three weeks ago, and he seemed to be doing well, but recently he has been fighting his insulin shots, not eating, panting a lot, and throwing up yellow bile. Does this sound like an insulin crash, and what should we do for him?

Our 11-year-old Australian heeler mix, Zelda, died a month ago from Hemangiosarcoma. We found out about the tumors on her spleen and liver only when one burst. We are grieving and feeling guilty about not catching it earlier. We noticed a change in her behavior and an enlarged belly on one side, but the vet didn't seem concerned. Could these symptoms have been related to the tumors, and if we had caught it earlier, could we have made a difference?

My dog Belle, a 6-year-old Labrador with epilepsy, is experiencing more frequent seizures (7 days apart). She is currently on melatonin and wild oat tincture, but initially was on phenobarb, which damaged her liver. After a seizure, I give her a valium injection to stop further seizures. The seizures seem to correlate with large drops in barometric pressure. I live in Australia, surrounded by the ocean. Could these environmental factors affect her seizures, and is there any medication to help lengthen the time between seizures?

My vet says my 9 1/2-year-old yellow lab may have a liver issue and has advised giving her Milk Thistle. I've been giving her Marin tablets and she doesn't seem to mind them, but I'm wondering if I can purchase liquid Milk Thistle from a health food store and give it to her. Is there a taste she may not like, or should I stick to the Marin tablets I buy from 1800 Pet Meds?
