My dog, Bentley, age 3, has been biting and licking the top of his front foot, which became swollen. The swelling reduced slightly with a cold cloth. There are no changes in his eating, drinking, defecating, or urinating, and no underlying medical conditions or medications. The foot has a small amount of blood when cleaned and appears normal otherwise. What could be causing this issue, and what immediate steps can be taken to alleviate his discomfort?
