My dog, Buford, a 3-year-old, has been scratching and licking excessively every summer. He is on a flea preventative but has not been on any allergy medications. His belly and legs are red and he is losing hair there. What could be causing this and what can I do to help him?

My 3-year-old mixed Chow Chow and Australian Shepherd dog, Vike, won’t stop itching or licking, causing big red spots. I first noticed the spots last week, and he has been licking and biting the skin. I’ve been giving him skin and coat support soft chews by the brand Only Natural Pet since March, but not consistently. What could be causing this and what should I do?
