My 11.5-year-old Doberman Pinscher has been experiencing loose stools, followed by watery diarrhea, weight loss, lethargy, and refusal to eat for about 3 weeks. An ultrasound ruled out a blockage, and the vet suspects IBD or lymphoma and recommends surgery for a biopsy. I'm concerned about the recovery from surgery, especially given his age and recent weight loss. Is surgery the only course of action, and could he starve to death if he continues to refuse food? Additionally, is there a chance of a missed blockage or other issues causing his vomiting and refusal to eat?

My dog, Darcy, a 5-year-old Dalmatian, ate something while on a walk and became unwell, showing symptoms such as difficulty standing or walking, head lolling, flinching when comforted, and incontinence. She was put on a drip at the vet, but I need to know what she might have eaten to prevent this from happening again. Darcy takes Apoquel for allergies and is otherwise fit and well.
