I have an eight-year-old female pitbull. Occasionally, she suffers from joint pain in her rear leg. I can't afford the $220 vet bill to take her in for evaluation and pain medication at the moment. Are there any over-the-counter medications that can provide her with safe and effective short-term relief?

We may have given my 12-year-old beagle (26 lbs) a second dose of simplicef, 12 hours apart. He doesn't seem to be having any adverse effects. What should we be concerned about or look for if he reacts poorly? He just had knee and bladder surgery.

My 8-month-old puppy ate several soft plastic wrappers, about the size of pop tarts. He has acted like he wanted to cough something up, but hasn't been able to. He is constipated, his tummy is somewhat distended, and he is obviously uncomfortable. What should I do? Can I give him a laxative?

My German Shepherd's stomach has gotten really big, but I can still feel his ribs, and I'm worried about him. He is about 11 years old. Did the enlarged stomach happen quickly within a day or weeks? Is he behaving uncomfortable or restless? Any vomiting, coughing, or diarrhea? Is he drinking more than usual? Any pre-existing medical conditions?
