My dog has an injury on his right paw. What can I do to treat it?

We are dog-sitting for our son this weekend. The dog started limping earlier today and we would like to know if there is any of our generic medicine that might help. The dog is limping and trying not to put weight on her front right leg. Her name is Bella and she is approximately 6-7 years old. She is a tall dog, white with large black spots, and was rescued from 'Helping Strays Columbia, Il.' She is current on all her shots, eats only Purina dog food, and takes no medicine. There is no history of traumatic incident or activity that might have caused the limping; it has been going on for about four days.
