Our female Doberman is approximately 13 years old and sometimes has trouble getting up from a laying down position, but otherwise is active, happy, and eating well. We give her sardines weekly, which seems to help her joints. How do we know when it's time to consider euthanasia, and do you have any suggestions for managing her condition?

My dog, Oliver, a 3.5-year-old boxer/beagle mix, suddenly has difficulty going up stairs and jumping on the couch, yelping in pain, which seems to be coming from his lower back. He lifts both back legs together to jump slowly and uses his upper body to pull himself up. The vet has ruled out kidney problems, Lyme disease, and other issues through blood work, urine check, eye sight test, and spine and neck examination. The vet prescribed antibiotics for a possible stomach problem, but I don't think it's stomach-related as his appetite and poop are normal. Could this be due to a fall or injury from the new house with many stairs and wooden floors, or is it something else?

Our 47-pound Siberian Husky, Mia, ate 3 or 4 ounces of new (unused) coffee grounds. She ate the coffee about 4 or 5 hours ago and seems fine. She ate a normal breakfast about 1 hour ago and seems normal and happy. I see no hyperactivity and if anything she is a little more at ease or calm than her normal self. No vomiting, no diarrhea. What should we do?
