My 22-pound Shih Tzu, Abbey, has had a persistent cough for about a week. The cough produces thick white phlegm, and she coughs every 4 to 5 minutes while awake. She is eating fine, but her breathing seems slower, and she snores while sleeping. Abbey is 12 years old, has diabetes, is blind, and has severe dry eye. She recently went to a dog park with other dogs, but she is the only one with this cough. What could be causing her cough, and what can I do to help her?
