For the past 6 months, I have been experiencing a sore and stiff neck. When I turn my head, I hear a crackling or grinding sound at the base of my neck, similar to having sand or gravel in the spinal cord. I also have pain that radiates to my shoulder blades. This pain is different from a pulled muscle because rubbing my neck or back does not relieve it like a pulled muscle would. Some days, it doesn't hurt, but I still hear the crackling noise when I move my head, while other days, it is very painful to move my head. I am a 37-year-old male taking diavan for my blood pressure and am otherwise healthy. I have tried using a heat pad and sore joint creams, but they have not helped.
