I am diabetic and also have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I take Lipitor to lower my cholesterol and Altace to help with my blood pressure. My doctor prescribed Toprol-XL initially at 50 mg, which was not enough, so he added an additional 50 mg, making the dose now 100 mg. I was also given a low dose of hydrochlorothiazide. I have heard that beta-blockers and diuretics can cause problems for people with diabetes. Are there any complications associated with using these medications in diabetics, especially since my diabetes is under very good control on Metformin?

I'm a 26-year-old female who experienced painless hematuria a week ago, followed by lower back ache, abdominal bloating, and occasional sharp pain. My urine and blood tests were clear, but a CT KUB scan showed an insignificant umbilical hernia. The pain has eased but persists, especially at night. What could this be and what should I do?
