I'm a 49-year-old woman, 5'6" tall, and weigh 140 lbs. Two years ago, I stopped smoking and gained 18 pounds in 3 months. One day, I suddenly experienced dizziness where the floor and ceiling seemed to move, lasting only a few seconds. Since then, my blood pressure has increased (I used to have low BP), and I've felt electric shock sensations from my head to my lower body every night. I also have arrhythmia. Doctors have suggested menopause, stress, and a minor cervical bump, but none have resolved the electric shock sensation. What tests do I need to determine the cause?

My mother's blood pressure is 184 over 110. She was recently in the hospital for frequent urination and a UTI, which caused dehydration and elevated kidney numbers. She takes Carvedilol 12.5, Lisinopril 5mg once a day, and Furosemide 40 mg once a day. She has swelling in her feet, shortness of breath, and slight wheezing. She has a history of AFIB and CHF, and just turned 85 years old. Can she take one of her blood pressure medications to lower her pressure in the meantime?
