I started taking sleeping pills, specifically Ambien, during menopause about 18 years ago. I now find myself taking more than the recommended dose of 10 mg per night, sometimes up to 35 mg, especially when I can't sleep due to inactivity caused by sciatica. I also take 20 mg of Valium at night and 40 mg of Prozac in the morning. I am 74 years old and know I should not be taking these medications in such quantities. How do I safely reduce and eventually stop taking these sleeping pills?
