I am co-guardian of my granddaughter along with my daughter. My granddaughter's father passed away in May 2014 and had a sizable annuity. He had borrowed from that annuity, which required the estate to be the beneficiary. His mother, the previous beneficiary, sued my daughter and granddaughter, claiming the notarized paper her son signed was forged. Our lawyers believe we have an excellent case, but due to politics and bias, we are advised to settle 56/44 with the other grandparents. The other grandparents want their share to go to our granddaughter's third cousin. Should we settle, and how do we balance the emotional and financial aspects of this decision?

In a deposition I initiate against the plaintiff, if I have a court reporter present who would also be the deposing officer, can I have a friend unrelated to the case do the video recording to save costs? If this is ill-advised, can you explain why?
