About 25 years ago, I changed my first name and moved out of town to evade an old boyfriend. I did not go through the courts; I simply went to the Social Security office and they issued a new card with my new name. I recently retired and cannot receive my pension because it requires my birth certificate, which is in my original name and was issued in Maine. The pension holder will only accept my birth certificate as proof of identity, not my driver's license, marriage certificate, or college transcripts. What steps can I take to resolve this issue?
