As a Canadian non-resident with a residency in the Middle East, I want to buy US stocks and was required to submit the W8BEN form. I didn't include the Foreign Tax Identification Number (TIN) because I don't have one, nor do I currently have a valid SIN. The US brokerage firm requested a letter justifying why I don't have a TIN, offering two options: (1) I am not legally required to obtain a TIN in my jurisdiction of tax residence, or (2) Other with an explanation. Should I choose the first option since I'm a resident in the Middle East, or should I choose the second option and elaborate on the situation (being a Canadian non-resident with no revenue from Canadian sources, hence no need for tax returns and no TIN)?

I am an independent contractor at a chiropractic clinic. I was recently deposed by the defendant in one of my patient's personal injury cases. The opposing counsel paid for my time and testimony. The owner of the clinic gave them her information (W9) for the payment and had them make the check payable to her, and now she will not pay me the check amount and is trying to give me a small percentage of it. Shouldn't I have been paid directly?

I am the sole owner of an LLC company that is being sued. I am shutting down the company and preparing to file personal bankruptcy. I have requested a continuance for the upcoming litigation due to my intent to file bankruptcy, but it is doubtful I will get it. Do I need to appear in court if I have no intention of fighting the lawsuit, especially since the case was originally against me and my company but they dropped me personally after deposition? Additionally, one of the counts is fraudulent misrepresentation, and I am unsure if I have been officially dismissed from the suit. How can I confirm my personal dismissal from the case?
