As a physician practicing in Alaska, I encountered resistance from a technician and an administrator regarding my order for a standard plain x-ray procedure on a patient with a long-standing sacral pressure sore. The technician and administrator refused to carry out the order, citing the lack of scanning capabilities and suggesting an MRI or nuclear med study instead. I am seeking clarification on the legal obligation of the hospital to carry out my medical orders and how to address this situation.
