Can an independent contractor charge our company for commuting to and from his home? We are in California, and the contractor is charging our church $10k per month for his services as an interim pastor. He has included in his contract that he wants us to reimburse him and his team for mileage to/from their homes plus any other transportation, hotel stays, meals, etc. Is this standard practice, and if not, how long do we have to back out of a contract we signed in California?

I had offered my horse to a woman at my barn, but she did not give a definitive answer. In the meantime, I contacted a retirement facility and completed the transfer of ownership on July 25th, with the intention of sending the horse there after August 30th. However, on August 21st, the woman at the barn decided she wanted the horse. The retirement facility is now demanding that the new owner file adoption paperwork or send the horse to them. Does the retirement facility have any claim to the horse?

A doctor performed a sinus operation on me, but it went wrong, causing me to have difficulty swallowing, continuous coughing during and after eating, speech problems, weight loss, and depression. The doctor said I would see improvement with time, but it's been almost 3 years with no improvement. I tried to start a malpractice suit within the limit but couldn't find a lawyer willing to take on the popular surgeon. What else can I do, and should I send a restitution letter to the doctor?
