I was held against my will at an emergency room and later, a psychiatric ward at Harbor UCLA hospital after voluntarily admitting myself due to an overdose of Ibuprofen. Despite being told I could leave, I was placed on a 72-hour hold and transferred to a psych ward against my will. I was not treated with respect or given privacy, and I believe my rights were violated. Was my involuntary commitment legal, and what legal recourse do I have?

I filed a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit in the Federal Court for the Western District of New York on January 4, 2011, and received a case number. However, I have not received a Summons from the Clerk of the Court to serve the Complaint on the Defendants within the required 60 days. I received an ORDER from a Judge dismissing the Complaint with prejudice, but it has not been served on any defendants. Could you tell me if my case can be dismissed before it has been served, and what steps should I take to resolve this issue?

I am a mother of a 15-year-old boy named Michael who was accepted to University High School with a potential financial aid award. However, the school could not award the financial aid, and I was told he could not attend. I offered to manage the payments and work two jobs to pay his tuition, but this was not accepted. My son wanted to transfer to UHS, and we went through the process again, only to be told they could not accept any transfer students. I questioned this and was informed that Michael was pending the results of the incoming freshman, and the current freshman class had too many students. I am upset with this process and the emotional toll it has taken on my son and me. Is there something not right about this situation?
