Do I need a lawyer for small claims court? I sent half the money for a puppy to a breeder in December, but the dog did not get pregnant as promised. The breeder refused a refund and is not responding to my calls or texts. The breeder mentioned a contract stating no refunds, but we never signed any contract. What are your thoughts?

I took out a student loan with 'My Rich Uncle' in 2008 and never made a single payment. The company was later bought by Younomics, which uses University Accounting Service to handle payments. I made a few payments in 2014, but the statute of limitations (SOL) has passed in Michigan. The loan is not listed on my credit reports. Is this because it fell off after the 6 years SOL, or are they not reporting it due to their financial issues? Am I in the clear if it's not on my credit report? Is there a way to find out without contacting them?

I am a medical resident who decided not to renew my contract after my program director coerced me to bill Medicaid using my name and engaged in questionable billing practices. Due to fear of retaliation, I waited until my contract ended to inform my program of my decision. My program director is now spreading false claims in the community that I will lose my medical license due to patient abandonment, even though I never saw a patient without an attending. Is her behavior considered defamation, and what legal actions can I take to stop her from making these false claims?

I was given a ticket for retail theft in Wisconsin and now face a civil claim for $200, in addition to a $125 fine. I can barely afford these fines and am concerned about my court date, as I have plans to be out of town for a conference. I am a first-time offender and recently started a new medication that may have caused confusion. What can I do to handle these fines and the court date, and do I have a chance to get into a diversion program to keep this off my record?

In a real estate transaction in California, we are the sellers. We accepted an offer and the buyers created an addendum stating that we would be responsible for all home inspections if we backed out due to failed negotiations regarding inspections. We feel this is unfair and were stuck as other offers had moved on. We agreed but would like to find a way out. Is there one?
