I was denied a lease due to having a working K9 for my job in New York City. I presented the leasing company with the dog's certifications, but they denied it, stating that my dog isn't tied to any disability or condition that I have. I have an old default judgment from 2007 in Florida that was issued while I was away at college and not properly served. The debt has never been substantiated, and I have received a letter for examination of admissions from a new company trying to collect on this old judgment. I missed the deadline for responding to this letter. What should I do next, and how can I protect myself from this collection attempt?

I am unemployed and seeking to apply for disability but am unable to compile the necessary information. What steps can I take to address this issue?
