In California, my client had a joint tenancy with her mother-in-law who passed away. The Department of Health Care Services, Recovery Section, sent my client a letter stating that she owes the balance of her medical services ($50,000) under the Welfare and Institutions (W&I) Code Section 14009.5 and Title 22, CCR. Can my client, who would otherwise have become the sole owner upon the death of her mother-in-law, be held liable for the decedent's medical expenses?

I have been unemployed since May of last year and enrolled in a truck driving training course. I was required to obtain three pre-hire trucking offers due to two speeding tickets on my MVR. My recruiter provided the names of companies to call, and I was accepted into the school with the promise of being hired by a trucking company. The training cost me $7,000. However, after graduating, no company would hire me due to my speeding tickets, violating their insurance policies. Now, I am left to pay off this loan without a job. How can I seek help?

Am I allowed to file a lawsuit using an alias? For example, could I register my alias name with the state division of corporations and commerce as a DBA and file suit using that alias? I would then have to sign all legal documents with the alias name. Is this permissible?
