I am trying to obtain a loan and provided documentation on an old closed collection account. I need a letter for my mortgage company that states it is beyond the statute of limitations for collections and they can no longer legally collect on the debt. I spoke to the clerk of court and it is closed and no appeal was filed. I can upload the document as well. What type of documentation do I request from the clerk of court? What is the statute of limitations on collecting after a case was closed? Are they able to place a lien on a home I'm trying to purchase if the case was closed on 5/2/14? To determine the date of the breach of contract, if it is the 2 dates on court documents, it's from 2010. Is there a way I can locate that date, the original company is no longer in business and it was sent to a collection agency? Do you have any recommendations of a lawyer I could see to write the paper needed for the mortgage company?
