I began receiving workman's comp death benefits in 2007 for my husband who passed away while traveling for business. We lived in Illinois at the time of his death, but I have since relocated back to my home in Oklahoma. I have not remarried but am currently dating someone. Yearly, I am asked to sign a notarized form that I have not remarried in order to retain my benefit. I owe $1800.00, which includes $1400.00 for dental work and $400.00 in processing fees. A collection agency is demanding payment in full since the debt is 2 years old. I am a foreign citizen on a temporary green card and plan to leave in 2 years. The debt is from a dentist who did not verify with my insurance company before treating me, and I was under the impression everything was fine until I received a bill months later. What should I do?
