Two years ago, I donated a vehicle to a charitable organization and filed a release of liability with the CA DMV. The new owners failed to register the vehicle, leading to it being towed and the bill being issued to me as the last registered owner. The case was sent to a collection agency, The Rickenbacker Group, which has had complaints about fraudulent claims. I provided them with my release of liability, and they verbally agreed to drop the claim. However, the claim remained on my credit report when I tried to buy a new car. I disputed this with the credit bureaus and contacted the agency, which now claims I never provided proper documentation. I have since obtained extensive proof of non-liability but cannot contact the agency as their phone lines are disconnected, their website is removed, and they have no forwarding address. I have tried due diligence in contacting them and need to know where to go from here.
