I have been prescribed an ESA (emotional support animal) by my physician for treatment of anxiety and depression, which is classified as a mental disability. My landlord is refusing to allow the ESA due to his wife's alleged severe pet dander allergy. What are my options for proceeding with the ESA prescription from my doctor, and is there legal precedent that a prescription for a mental disability (an ESA) would not be honored if someone in the apartment building had allergies or other medical conditions that predate my medical condition?
