Richard D. asked
I live in MI and my grandchildren in RI. Their mother has had custody but is unable to take care of them due to ongoing hospitalization for depression. My son, the father, is willing to go to court to ask the judge to grant me temporary custody so I can provide a stable home and education for them in MI. What are my odds of success, and what steps should I take to file for temporary custody in RI?

I have a 1-year-old child whose father is not involved much in her life, and I would like to obtain full custody without joint custody. I don't have a problem with visitation. What are my options?
