I live in Vermont and own my home. Someone was staying with me under a verbal agreement, and when they stopped paying, they were asked to leave, leaving behind a vehicle and other belongings. The vehicle was towed at the owner's expense, but I am being told by the police that I have to pay for the towing and am responsible for the belongings for 6 months. What is the truth in this situation?
