I moved from a house in October 2005 and requested the gas company to discontinue service on that date. Their records verify the call. However, no one showed up to shut off the gas on the day I moved. Almost 4 years later, I received a notice from a debt collection agency stating that I owe the gas company $1500. The gas company claims they could not get in to shut off the gas because the house has an inside meter and they could not access it. They are saying I am responsible for the bill from October 2005 until March 2006, even though I was not living there and the house was sold to someone unknown to me. Am I responsible for these charges?
